Port Clinton Ohio is often commended the “Walleye Capital of the World” and commemorates such honor on New Years Eve. Everyone gathers and watches the lowering of Captain Wylie, an 20-foot long, 600 lb. fiberglass walleye, by crane from a roof on Madison Street in downtown Port Clinton at the stroke of midnight. People gather from all over to celebrate and often endure very cold temperatures during the celebration.
