Mooring, also known
as moorage, refers to an permanent anchoring system that holds
or secures a boat in a certain location.
Usually
devices such as secured anchors or heavy cement blocks are located
on the sea bed or floor. The anchors or heavy cement blocks
are attached to a buoy or a dock by a cable or rope. When a
boaters wants to anchor their boat, instead of throwing a sea anchor
onto the bottom of the sea floor, they tie off to the mooring.
Mooring is usually much more reliable than
using just a sea anchor. As
sea anchor does not protect your boat from drifting or moving in
bad weather conditions. Having your boat moored gives a greater
chance of your boat not drifting or moving during bad weather conditions.
Mooring also reduces damage to the bottom
of the sea bed or floor. Continuous
anchoring by use of a sea anchor in the same spot creates massive
damage to the sea floor. Having your boat moored is not only
beneficial to you, but it is also beneficial to the environment.
